Android 9.0 Pie

In 61 years of writing software, most of it for end users, this Android app is the worst I have ever encountered. If some human who is truly interested, I would be happy to share my specific observations.

All I want to do is change the default folder where scan files are stored and specify a folder to use instead of the default folder.

Operating System: Android 9.0 Pie

Unfortunately, sharing anything about the way HP App responds in Android won't be useful for me -- I no longer have any Android devices where the HP App is supported.

If you are actually using an Android device running version 9.0 Pie, the HP App is not listed as supported.  If it works at all, it might not work to the standard such as it is.  ?  Scroll down to -- Reference --

Assuming for the sake of the answer that you are running a supported version of Android,

and

If you have not already done so,

Perhaps consider using the HP App version of Shortcuts to direct the scanned content to a supported Cloud account destination.

The following is offered FYI only and does not include any excuses for an application that won't do what you want done.

  • Create the HP Shortcut as a Save function -- add the Destination.
  • Scan the content
  • After the content is scanned and "Done", Instead of selecting to "Save", select the next action as  Shortcuts and then choose the Shortcut you created for the purpose.

Thank you for your prompt response. These comments are simply in response to your kind comments and not further requests to the "community".

1. The app could have put up a "where do you want to put this file? This is the default" dialog. That would have been one way to write professional software. There are others.

2. No. My O/S is V.16 but the community only offered (1) V.8 or earlier and (2) V.9 Pie. The community page has apparently not been maintained for several years

3. It wasn't exactly a chore to move the scan file to my desired folder. All I had to do was look in "New Files" in the well-written Files+ app. I just can say that the failure of the app to offer an alternative is unprofessional, and would have been so long before there were smartphones or PCs.

4. I do have a solution. If HP is incapable or unwilling to offer a professionally written Android app, I will stop buying HP printers.

I do almost everything from my smartphone these days. I barely even need my PC.

This was only one problem of many I found with the app.

And the support! The "are you using Android V.8 or earlier, or V.9" in the O/S drop down when signing onto the "community" screams, "We don't care about you. Go away." I foolishly ignored the warning.

5. I'm glad it works better for iOS. My wife uses Apple. I have confirmed from trying to help her do things on her stuff that I will never use an Apple product. When I considered writing PC software in '86, I found Apple rules unreasonably constraining. When I saw that I would have to maintain 2 very separate versions of everything, I said ---- it and went into consulting instead.

Two professional encounters w/Mr. Jobs did not help.
