start scan from my computer

My HP 8500 has died and now my HP 8600. So now I have the Office Jet 4650.  I have always been able to put the document in the printer and then click on the printer from my computer to tell it to scan as a PDF.  It seems with this printer I can't do that.  I can scan as other types of TIF, BMP, JPG but not a PDF....  and then save where I want it.  Can I do this with this printer .... I don't see how or where to set that up.

Scanning issues…

Please try this scan solution:
 
HP Scan Extended

For Windows:   ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
