I used to be able to scan from my phone to my printer perfectly, but now I can't.  I've reloaded the app, but still no luck.  Any suggestions.  The printer is circa 2021.

Hi @bctutoring,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If you're having trouble scanning from your phone using the HP Smart app with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e All-in-One Printer, even after reloading the app, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

1. Check Printer and App Connection

Make sure both the printer and your phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Confirm Printer's Wi-Fi Status: On the printer control panel, check if the Wi-Fi light is on and solid (not blinking). If it's blinking, you may need to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Check Wi-Fi Connection on Phone: Make sure your phone is also connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer.

2. Update the HP Smart App

Ensure that the HP Smart app is up-to-date.

  • On iOS/Android: Go to the App Store or Google Play Store, search for HP Smart, and see if an update is available. If so, update the app and then try scanning again.

3. Restart Your Devices

Sometimes a simple restart of your devices can resolve connection issues.

  • Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart Your Phone: Power off your phone and then turn it back on to refresh the app and network connections.

4. Reset Printer Network Settings

If the printer still isn't connecting properly to the HP Smart app, resetting its network settings may help:

  • Reset Printer Network Settings:
    1. On the printer control panel, press the Wi-Fi button and the Back button simultaneously for about 5 seconds.
    2. The printer's network settings will reset, and you can set up the Wi-Fi connection again through the HP Smart app.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @bctutoring ,

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Re-add the Printer in HP Smart App

Try removing and re-adding the printer in the HP Smart app:

  1. Remove the Printer from the HP Smart app:
    • Open the HP Smart app, click on your printer name, and select Forget this printer.
  2. Add the Printer back:
    • From the HP Smart app home screen, click Add Printer and follow the prompts to reconnect the printer to the app.

6. Check for Printer Firmware Updates

Ensure the printer firmware is up-to-date:

  1. On the printer control panel, navigate to Settings or Setup.
  2. Select Printer Maintenance or Printer Updates.
  3. Choose Check for Updates and allow the printer to install any available updates.

7. Check Permissions (For iOS/Android)

Ensure that the HP Smart app has the necessary permissions to access the scanner and network:

  • For iPhone/iPad:
    • Go to Settings > HP Smart and enable access to Local Network, Camera, and any other relevant options.
  • For Android:
    • Go to Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Permissions, and ensure it has access to your Camera, Storage, and Location.

8. Reinstall HP Smart App

If the issue persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart app:

  • Uninstall the app from your phone.
  • Reinstall the latest version of the HP Smart app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).

9. Alternative Scanning Method

If scanning through the HP Smart app still doesn't work, try using Email to Print:

  1. On the printer control panel, enable Scan to Email.
  2. Set up the feature by entering your email address and other required information.
  3. Scan directly from the printer and have the scan sent to your email.

Keep me posted for further assistance
