HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer

Have been having an issue with the scanning option of my all-in-one.  Keep getting a message that scanning is not available.  Have tried shutting down entire system.  Have disconnected cords from back of printer.  Have disconnected from power source, nothing is working.

Hi @Bagalonia

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device,

If your HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer is showing a message that scanning is not available, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to try to resolve the issue. Below is a comprehensive guide to address this problem.

1. Check the Printer’s Connection

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If you're using a Wi-Fi connection, ensure that the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
  • If you’re using a USB connection, make sure the cable is securely plugged into both the printer and the computer.

2. Restart the Printer and Computer

  • Power off the printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then power it back on. Do the same with your computer.
  • This can help resolve any temporary issues with the printer's connection or communication with the computer.

3. Check for Software Conflicts

  • Close any open scanning or printer software on your computer before trying to scan again.
  • Make sure no other applications (like other printer or scanning software) are blocking access to the scanner.

4. Reinstall the Printer Drivers

  • Go to HP’s official support page and download the latest drivers for your HP ENVY 5055.
  • Uninstall the current printer drivers from your computer, then reinstall the updated drivers.

5. Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download the tool from the HP Support site.
  • Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, select your printer, and follow the on-screen prompts to fix any scanning issues.

6. Check Windows Settings (for Windows 10/11)

  • Open Windows Settings and go to Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Make sure your HP ENVY 5055 is listed as the default printer and scanner.
  • Click on your printer, then select Manage and check the Scanner settings.

7. Check for Errors on the Printer Display

  • Look for any error messages or warnings on the printer’s control panel.
  • If there is a low ink warning, make sure all ink cartridges are installed properly and have sufficient ink.
  • If the display shows any other error, follow the on-screen instructions to resolve it.

8. Test Scanning from the Printer’s Control Panel

  • Place a document on the scanner bed.
  • Go to the Scan option from the printer’s control panel and try scanning directly from there.
  • This will help determine whether the issue is with the printer or with the computer's communication with the printer.

9. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Sometimes, issues like this can be caused by outdated firmware on the printer. Update the printer firmware if an update is available.
  • Go to the HP Support page for your printer and check if there is a new firmware update available.
  • Follow the instructions to update the printer firmware.

10. Check for Scanner Driver in Device Manager (for Windows)

  • Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Windows Start menu).
  • Look under Imaging Devices and check if your HP ENVY 5055 is listed.
  • If there is a yellow triangle next to the device, right-click it and select Update driver to ensure it’s using the correct driver.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
