I do not see where you mentioned your Printer Model or Operating System/version.

If you did, I may have missed it, or your message failed to include that information.

Next --

Sure -- could be a driver issue.

Scan from printer to computer might take more than one form.

For example,

Web Scan -- No software -- Part of the Embedded Web Server (EWS) and run from your browser.   Web Scan must be enabled  for first use and does require that your computer be connected to the same network and available to accept scanned input.

SMTP - Scan to Network -- this is a more sophisticated Scan to "Destination" method available on some printer models.  The setup is either configured on the printer's control panel or created as a Quick Set / Profile in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Scan to Computer -- Part of the full driver printer software for Windows.  The full driver must be installed, functional, and Manage Scan to Computer must be enabled.

Of the three, the last is more likely in that the first two are not generally driver related.

Ask if you need help to reinstall the full driver.

→ → We will need to know your printer model AND your Operating System / version.

Next,

If your full driver is installed and functional, the next place to check is whether Manage Scan to Computer is enabled.  If not, you can check / enable the process.

HP Containers / Desktop Shortcuts

Next,

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one or more shortcuts to the Desktop.

-- Driver Assistant --

  • The Printer Assistant and the HP Scan Assistant, are dependent on printer model and supported software options for that printer.
  • The Assistant type that is supported with a particular printer will be installed with that printer's full driver printer software.
  • HP Scan, the format determined by the printer model, is installed with the full driver for the printer.

-- No Assistant companion --

HP Universal Scan Software - Model and Operating System / version dependent

  • When installed, the HP Universal Scan software adds a separate self named “HP Scan” shortcut

-- Assistant and HP Scan -- Naming Conventions --

  • Printer Assistant – Where supported as part of the printer model's full driver printer software
  • HP Scan – Shortcut added to the Desktop is named for the printer model

OR

  • HP Scan Assistant – For those printer models that do not support the Printer Assistant
  • HP Scan - Shortcut added to the Desktop is named for itself "HP Scan"

Next,

-- Manage Scan to Computer --

Open the Assistant type installed with your full driver printer software

Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Or

HP Scan Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable
