HP OfficeJet Pro 8710
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Hi everyone,

I'm quite frustrated because I'm not able to scan documents to my email on the new HP printer I purchased.

I'm getting the error message - username and password is incorrect but I know that's not true.

What am I doing wrong?

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are getting an error while scanning to email on HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

  • Are trying to scan from printer control panel or from the computer?

Meanwhile:

Ensure you are able to access EWS.

If it was changed update the login details from the EWS page under Scan > Scan to Email > Outgoing Profiles.

Type the printer IP address on the browser to access the EWS page.

Press the network icon on the printer screen to locate its IP address.

If the same persists try setting an alternative DNS address and check if that may help to resolve any connectivity issue.

  • Enter the EWS page and go to Network.
  • Next, go to IPv4 under the active connection type.
  • Under DNS Address Configuration select Manual.
  • Set the preferred address as 8.8.8.8 and the alternate as 8.8.4.4
  • click on apply and check if that works.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

Thanks for your suggestions. What is EWS?

The answer to your question-- I'm trying to scan a document from the printer to my personal email so that I can then attach it to future outgoing emails.

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and effort.

Set up a new Scan to Email profile to fix this issue.

Follow the below steps to use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to set up Scan to E-mail.

  1. On the Dock, click HP Utility.

    • If the HP Utility is not on the Dock, follow these steps:

      1. Double-click your hard drive.

      2. On the left, select Applications.

      3. Double-click the HP Folder.

      4. Double-click the HP Utility.

  2. Click Scan to Email, and then click Begin Scan to E-Mail Setup. The EWS opens in a new window.

       NOTE:

If you get a message stating 'Safari can’t verify the identity of the website,' click Continue.

  3. Click the Scan tab, and then click Scan to E-mail Setup.

  4. Click Outgoing E-mail Profile.

  5. Click New, and then enter your email address.

  6. Enter a name to display on the printer's control panel to identify this email profile.

  7. Enter or confirm the correct SMTP server and SMTP port information.

  8. If you typically have to enter a username and password to log into your email account, enter this information into the email authentication fields.

  9. Click Next.

  10. If desired, enter a security PIN to restrict access to this email profile.

Click here and refer the document to perform the above steps.

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers.
