Your Answer

Check with the OCR software maker about compatibility with your Operating System.

Standard HP printer software does not include OCR software.

True - if you want the OCR feature, you need software what provides it.

Details - HP+

This is an "e" printer model of the OfficeJet 8015 series.

"e" models include an option to accept and enable the HP+ service contract.

HP+ includes several extra features, including Print Anywhere and scanning and saving PDF in "Searchable PDF" format.

This long after the purchase, I cannot tell you whether the HP+ option is available to you.

Why?

There are benefits and requirements enabled with HP+ service.

One of the benefits extends the hardware Warranty by a year (for a total of two years).

Is the HP+ option still available?  Perhaps.  ?

What else?

Be Aware ---

HP+ also comes with requirements for the consumer (you).

Requirements for HP+ printers

This topic describes the requirements for HP+ printers.

Keep the printer connected to the Internet

HP+ printers are cloud-connected devices that must remain connected to the Internet in order to function. The
Internet connection enables the printer to deliver HP+ specific app features and firmware updates.

During setup, you must connect the printer to the Internet using a supported network connection. After setup,
you can print using a USB cable connection, if desired, but the printer must still be connected to the Internet.

Use Original HP cartridges

Original HP cartridges are cartridges manufactured and sold by HP in official HP packaging. If non-Original HP
supplies or refilled cartridges are installed, HP+ printers will not operate as expected.

Have an HP account

Create or sign into an HP account to manage your printer.

Thank you for the information some of which I did not know.  Pity that sort of information is not made known in hard copy instruction booklets e.g. why the printer has to stay on all the time when using their HP+.

@JAB35

You are welcome.

I've not seen much in the way of hard copy documents for computers or printers since about 2005.

I did receive a full hard copy user guide for a ceiling fan I recently purchased.    I think the logic is that a ceiling fan might be installed in an environment where the consumer has no knowledge or access to technology beyond electricity.

We are expected to find the information we need in an online environment.

You can certainly choose to print out paper copies of anything you need in hard copy format.

OK.

HP+ requires the printer to be kept connected to the Internet -

  • HP benefits by having access to NON-user specific printer hardware monitoring - how the printer mechanics are doing, total number of engine requests for scan and print actions, supplies usage, and other hardware usage reports.  HP does NOT monitor any personal data.  The same laws protecting your privacy without HP+ apply when you do have HP+.

and

  • The customer benefits for having extra Security monitoring added to protect the printer from hacking and outside unauthorized access.  The added security cannot do its job if it cannot see that the printer is doing.

Not related to HP+

  • IF you were to add an optional (not mandatory) subscription to HP Instant Ink, that service monitors the printer connection for the purpose of knowing when the printer needs an ink shipment.
