using the fax with fiber optic phone line

I have no problems with the printer, which is working just fine. But I want to attach a phoneline to use the fax. Here’s the problem.

I am using an AT&T fiber optic system. I have attempted to attach a modular fax machine to the wireless phone system, without success. I can either receive a fax or a phone call, but not both.

I was wondering if the same problem will appear if I attach the router phone line to the printer. The controls for the phone system are all online, not actually on the phone itself.

Any suggestions how to use this phone system with my HP printer and fax?

According to the section setting up a fax machine it says: HP printers are designed specifically for use with traditional analog phone services. If you are in a digital phone environment (such as DSL/ADSL, PBX, or ISDN), you might need to use digital-to-analog filters or converters when setting up the printer for faxing.

I contacted my phone provider AT&T. After describing the problem several times and being transferred may times I was told to let HP know that I need a converter to connect my HP envy 4640 printer to a digital home phone through the internet, and HP will know exactly what converter I need to get.  So at this point I am hoping that is true.
