I understand you’re seeing the term “STMF” while setting up your HP OfficeJet Pro 8125e and aren’t sure what it means. Let’s clear this up simply.

STMF is not a real printer or email setting.
What you’re seeing is almost certainly a typo or misreading of SMTP.

Here’s what that means in simple terms:

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.
It is the method your printer uses to send emails when you use features like Scan to Email.

Your HP 8125e does not have an “STMF” setting.
Any place where you think you’re seeing “STMF” is actually referring to SMTP email setup.

How SMTP applies to your printer:

• It allows the printer to send scanned documents as email
• It requires an email account to act as the sender
• It needs login permission (authentication) to work

What SMTP authentication means (plain language):

Authentication just means proving the email account belongs to you.
Your printer signs in to the email account so it’s allowed to send mail.

Important to know:

• SMTP is only used for Scan to Email
• It has nothing to do with normal printing
• Your printer will still print even if SMTP is not set up

If you were trying to scan to email and ran into this term, the next step is choosing which email service you want to use (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.), because each one has specific SMTP settings.
