Hi @tazz4906,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Scanner!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Since your HP Envy 5530 is still printing fine but won’t copy, the issue is likely with the scanner hardware or settings rather than the printer itself. Here’s what you can try:
Basic Troubleshooting
Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from power for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and restart.
- Try copying again.
Check Scanner Glass & Document Feeder
- Make sure the scanner glass is clean (wipe it with a lint-free cloth).
- If using the automatic document feeder (ADF), ensure no paper is jammed.
Try Copying from the HP Smart App
- Open the HP Smart App on your computer or phone.
- Select the Copy function (if available).
- If copying works through the app, the physical button may be faulty.
Reset the Printer to Factory Settings
- On the printer touchscreen, go to:
- Setup > Tools > Restore Defaults
- Confirm and restart the printer.
Run a Scanner Test
- Press Home > Setup > Reports > Printer Status Report
- If the printer can print reports but not copy, the scanner hardware may be failing.
If None of These Work…
Since your printer is 10 years old, the scanner lamp or sensor might have degraded. If copying is important, repairing may not be cost-effective, and upgrading to a newer model could be a better option. Let me know what happens after trying these steps! 😊
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨
Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
