None of the suggestionson on  the q & a have worked. The printer has been fine up until a week ago. It now won't print email and PDF but will sometimes do a Word doc. Any help would be appreciated - frustrated !!!

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let us know the Operating System installed on the device your Printer is connected to.

If you're connected to a Windows Computer, here are some steps you could follow:

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

This did not help.

Officejet 6978.  Followed the steps outlined.  Now the message is "Something went wrong" without an error code.  Attempting to print a PDF from Microsoft Edge.

However, using Foxit Reader, it printed successfully.  At this point, I'm going to conclude there is an issue with Microsoft Edge.  Since I've got a work around, I can print.

I'm not going to spend any more time on this issue, 2019.10.06 - 2304

Thanks.

The same error but your indications to solve the situation didn't work

Error message said configuration problem.  Worked on this for 2 days.  Did what you said to do, took out cartridges, unplugged etc.  Did Not Work.

This is way too much work, I've already tried to reach HP.  A message came up when I signed in & provided my serial number.  It said that my Warranty had expired, so there's no way to talk to a real person.  There's no contact number listed on the HP site & I had to "Chat with a virtual assistant"...sucks!!!!    Is it just easier to go out & buy a new printer?  The one I have (Officejet 5740) is about 5 years old. By the time I pay for HP to help me, if I can even come across a phone number, I'm thinking I may as well just pick up a new one.  What would you do?

Hi, I had this same problem, HP Deskjet 2620. I tried all the above options, none of which worked, including reinstalling the printer to my PC and updating the drivers Etc. My problem was fixed by re-enabling "print spooler" in the services section in windows 10. If you wish to try this, in the start menu of your windows PC (can't comment for other Operating systems, sorry) search for "services", open it, scroll down (alphabetical order) until you find "print spooler", and make sure it says "running" in the "status" column. Seems like a lot of people here had different solutions that fixed their problems so this may be useless to you.
