Just bought the Envy. Network connected. Print great and scans, but doed not give me an OCR option for PDF files.
My HP Solutions Center that I had with the old printer [died of stripped feed gear after years of faithful service] allowed me to scan documents to searcheable PDF files. It had I.R.I.S. software built into the program. Unfortunately, it does not work with the Envy.
What can I do to get OCR capabilities on the Envy?

Sorry to say no option because the OCR software is NOT included with this type of printer. You have to buy OCR software separatly. The software came with your old printer won't work with new printer, it checks the printer and disables itself.
But before buying an OCR software, please try some free software

Note: I have not tested them, please try at your own risk.

Thank you. I was afraid of that. Amazing that we take a step forward, we take two back.
I downloaded he FreeOCR software yesterday and it does work. It even recognizes the scanner! It takes more steps than scanning directly with my old 1401 series priner/scanner but it will do the job.
I also had looked at the other web site and downloaded and installed the Microsoft MODI module for Office 2010 [yes, I still use it].
Thank you for your promt and frank repply.
