I cannot scan via HP SMART application from my laptop but I can print from HP Smart. Why doesn't it allow me to scan? I have always been able to scan until today.

Can try to uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart (and then add the printer) ?
If that doesn't work, download the FULL featured software.

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.
