Greetings @jahoz

Thanks for the post,

I understand that you are unable to send and receive faxes on your printer, is that right?

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Are you able to print and scan fine on your printer?

Refer to this HP Article and run a Fax test on your printer.

If the test passes, recommend you run the fax setup wizard using the printer assistant in your computer.

Please click here for the user manual of your printer.

Let me know how it goes. Good Luck.

Thanks for your quick reply Chimney_83.  I had run the fax test and all the other tests found on HP's site.  The fax test is showing: An active phone line was not detectd.  The HP Officjet Pro L7780 All-in-One worked perfectly with printing, scanning & faxing until I changed to Verizon Fios.  The printing and scanning still work perfectly.  The fax does not.  The fax is on a dedicated phone line & if I call the number for the fax...it rings busy.  I have been on the phone with Verizon & they assure me my phone lines are clear.  They even tried to send me a fax and the phone line never rang.  I'm wondering if the phone line is clear from the poll to the house; but when Fios was installed the wiring in the house to the dedicated phone line stopped working.  I'm baffled.  Thank you for your input.  If you have any other suggestions, I woud appreciate same.

Hello, @jahoz

I see that you were interacting with @Chimney_83. He is out of office & I'd like to help 🙂

Going through your post, I see that you are having issues while sending the fax using the FIOS line. You might be required to use a DSL filter on the line to send the fax.

Also, should check your Fax Cable connected to your HP All-in-One Printer. The Cable SHOULD have ONLY 2-Pins on Each End.

You Also need a 2-Way Phone Splitter. [It turns a Single Phone-Jack into 2]

You need to Install this into your Phone Jack on the Wall. This way, you can Connect BOTH your Phone and your HP All-in-One Printer Fax. And a 2-Pin Cable needs to run from that Splitter to your Fax. A typical 4-Pin might cause problems, and you only need a 2-Pin.

It is Possible that VIOS works much like AT&T Uverse does, which utilizes a 2-Line-per-Cable Interface, and can often Disable a Fax Machine, usually causing the Line to be either 'Busy' or 'Off the Hook'. This will cause a Busy Signal on both the Fax Machine and your Land-Line Phones.

Purchasing a 2-Pine [6P2C] Phone Cable into the Line-1 jack on the back of your HP All-in-One, with the Other End in a Splitter [So you have both Fax & Phone plugged in the Same Line].

If the issue persists, then check http://vz.to/2prZHjV for more detailed setup.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂

Hi Divortex - Did not need to go shopping for the new cable.  When installing the Fios the Tech unplugged the pig tail... thus no fax line.  If it were not for you mentioning the cable...never would have looked under the built-in desk again  to re-check all the connections.  Thanks loads.  (Originally thought pig tail was still connected.)
