Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Greetings -in order to recover or reset the PIN used to sign into Windows on your HP desktop, follow these steps:
Option 1: Reset the PIN using your Microsoft account:
If you're using a Microsoft account to sign in (most common in Windows 10/11):
At the sign-in screen, click “I forgot my PIN” below the PIN entry box.
You’ll be prompted to verify your identity (e.g., via email, phone, or Microsoft Authenticator).
Once verified, you can set a new PIN.
Tip: Make sure the PC is connected to the internet during this process.
Option 2: Reset with a local account:
If you’re using a local (offline) account:
Windows doesn’t provide a way to reset a local PIN without knowing the old one. However, you can:
Click “Sign-in options” and choose “Password” instead (if one was set).
If you can’t sign in at all, you’ll likely need to reset the password or perform a system recovery.
Option 3: Perform a system recovery (last resort):
If you can’t access the system at all:
Turn on the PC and press the Esc key repeatedly, then press F11 for recovery options.
Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC and follow the on-screen steps.
You can choose to keep your files (if available) or do a full reset.
Warning: Resetting your PC may remove apps and settings -possibly even your data.
Let me know which option applies to you, and I’ll be happy to guide you step-by-step.
Kind Regards,
