@NK327,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Greetings -in order to recover or reset the PIN used to sign into Windows on your HP desktop, follow these steps:

Option 1: Reset the PIN using your Microsoft account:

If you're using a Microsoft account to sign in (most common in Windows 10/11):

  1. At the sign-in screen, click “I forgot my PIN” below the PIN entry box.

  2. You’ll be prompted to verify your identity (e.g., via email, phone, or Microsoft Authenticator).

  3. Once verified, you can set a new PIN.

Tip: Make sure the PC is connected to the internet during this process.

Option 2: Reset with a local account:

If you’re using a local (offline) account:

  • Windows doesn’t provide a way to reset a local PIN without knowing the old one. However, you can:

    1. Click “Sign-in options” and choose “Password” instead (if one was set).

    2. If you can’t sign in at all, you’ll likely need to reset the password or perform a system recovery.

Option 3: Perform a system recovery (last resort):

If you can’t access the system at all:

  1. Turn on the PC and press the Esc key repeatedly, then press F11 for recovery options.

  2. Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC and follow the on-screen steps.

  3. You can choose to keep your files (if available) or do a full reset.

Warning: Resetting your PC may remove apps and settings -possibly even your data.

Let me know which option applies to you, and I’ll be happy to guide you step-by-step.

Kind Regards,
