Tablet-Stream 7 5709
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

The product number is K4F53UA.

The problem is with the battery not charging properly and I'm now being asked for the bitlocker code every time I have to power off the tablet.

When the tablet is powered on, Windows is running and it is plugged in, the tablet won't charge. It never shows the tablet charging and after a while the battery will run down and the tablet will power off. While powered off, plugging the tablet in causes the charge icon to flash. If the battery still has some power left in it the charge icon will come on for around 10 seconds, turn off for 2 seconds, turn on for 10 seconds, turn off for 2 seconds, and continue to do this for a while unitl it just stops. If the battery was drained before powering down the same thing happens except the time for the charge icon to stay on is a fraction of a second.

I went into the diagnostics menu and ran both the Quick and Extensive tests. Both ran successfully without error, but no where in the diagnostics menu does it show the battery charging while it is plugged in.

I tried to post this before but it doesn't show on the forum.

When the tablet is powered off and you first plug the charger in, you should see the charging pictogram in the display for 10 seconds and then it should disappear during the rest of the time the charger remains plugged in.  If you are seeing something different, the tablet may be defective if you have verified the charger and cable are good.

Some others here have noted the charging pictogram flashing and it turned out to be a defective tablet unfortunately.

Hello @ProtectiveDad,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! The forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

I read your post about the battery issue, and wanted to assist you!  I understand that the battery is not charging.  I see that you ran the hardware tests, and everything passed.

Are you using the original AC Adapter that came with the tablet, or a certified replacement?  Using an incorrect AC Adapter may cause damage to the battery, or may cause a variety of charging issues.  If you are, do you have a replacement AC Adapter you can test?  If the issue is not related to the adapter, and since you already tested the other hardware, the issue may be related to the Operating System.  Try refreshing the tablet first.  If you are still having trouble, then try resetting it.  You can use the following documents to help you, if needed:

Hello,

Thanks for the response. I am using the original (2A) wall adapter and cable that came with the tablet. This also properly charges, my Lenovo and Playbook tablets. So I am confident it is working correctly.  My Blackberry Playbook charger is a 2A micro USB charger and I have tried using that on the tablet, I have also tried using three other chargers that I have around. All chargers work on my other tablets and phones.

Please also note that the problem occurs OUTSIDE of windows. When in the diagnostics menu (Power/Down Vol and F2) it is not charging when plugged in.

Thanks. That seems what is wrong. I've received a replacement and it's working great.
