Compaq 8 1400 Tablet
Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

Hi there, I just bought a Compaq 8 1400 Tablet in China recently. When I open it back home in Singapore, I notice that the OS installed seems to be one that is specfic for China, i.e. it does not come with Google Play nor Chrome nor Gmail. I tried to check in hp.com for software update but in vain. Can you advise me what can I do to get the normal Andriod OS that comes with Google Play, Chrome, Gmail?

Greetings @ytsiong

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are unable to install or use Google play or Chrome or Gmail, is that right?

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Have you checked HP Website for a different image for the tablet?

For the model of tablet you are using there are no images available for download on HP Website.

Recommend you perform a factory reset on the tablet by following the procedure mentioned under "Resetting a Compaq 7, Compaq 7 Plus, or Compaq 8 Tablet" section of this HP Article

Once reset is done, configure the tablet for a different region and check if it resolves the issue you are facing.

If the issue persists, please contact our phone support for further assistance.

Keep me posted. Good Luck.

Hi Chimney, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, the propose solution does not solve the problem. I will have to find some time to call into HP helpdesk.
