I am absolutely astounded that they sent you such an old unit as a replacement! (there has been at least one other version in between that has 1pcs of CR2032).

It is true that those older calculators of that shape (known as the "Voyager" series) often had loose keys that rattle.

However, if they are replacing a unit you have just purchased, I would have expected a like-for-like replacement, i.e. a new unit (it was only a few days old = as new). Also this old unit does simply not have the same specification, for one it is much slower than the new unit with 2pcs CR2032.

I think you should contact the support again and complain until you get a like-for-like replacement.

right , the price for my `new` 12c is triple than the Cxxxx brand and six times than the Sxxxx brand, with lesser functions. As i loved my 32s/42s , i do want to have a legacy device in my collections,
however, it's really heart breaking in this incident.

i dont mind to have a used nice device if it is in a reasonable used price.

shall prepare some pic and video for the CS to follow their follow up.

thanks for the valuable information on the generations differences.

Not going to pay $349 for a used calculator that cost $159 when new.

While I personally agree with your sentiment, these are pretty much collectors items now and not "normal" products anymore. Hence the price is higher. They were all made with expensive double injection molding for keys, gold plated circuit boards, etc.

Also, I'd throw out that a 1989 dollar to today is not actually that far off from your outrageous price... http://www.in2013dollars.com/1989-dollars-in-2015?amount=159
