I had the same problem. It didn't work with any USB-Stick I tried with.

It just worked with an external DVD-Drive, so you should burn a DVD.

I think the Pavilion x2 is not able to boot from an USB.

Was having this problem too, make sure you're booting to a 32bit installer! I've booted to the USB now, I'm booting to Windows 10 32 bit and I can reinstall windows fine 🙂

Its not the 32 bit installer that save your day my friend. Its windows 10 that allows you to boot your x10 from USB or CD, delete and reallocate the partitions and fresh install a windows.

If you choose to this fresh install with a win 8.1 or 7, it will just not work, u can probably get it booted up into the USB media, but it just won't do a fresh install, regardless of whether a 32 or 64 bit USB.

It's win 10 that save the day.

Hey have you been able to successfully do a backup of the drive? No matter what I try I can't get the laptop boot into any usb backup app (Acronis, Clonezilla) ...

Use the media creation tool of microsoft... I have the same problem but if you use the media creation tool, it will detect your usb from boot menu

The media creation tool allows you to create a bootable USB with Windows 10. It doesn't allow you to choose any other image e.g. Acronis or Clonezilla... That's what I'm trying to do.

thanks for the step by step approach.  it is nice to see.  i started having problems with my new pavilion 10 when the system failed to find any sound hardware.  i used the recovery process to see if it could find the hardware again but without success.  and to be honest it went down hill from there. i had not loaded any of my own softwear at this stage just some music on a usb dongle hence i found i could not get any sound.  i did not take a back up of the system so i now need an copy of an iso image as the system does not seem to be able to do a recovery again.  any help with this would be welcome thanks in advance

happy new year
