Hi,

Recently there was an upgrade from 4.2 to 4.4.2 on my HP slate 21. After installation, the file explorer is not allowed to write files into external memory card or a hard disk. External memory is an important part of hp slate 21 since it has very little on-board memory. Please let me know if there is any solution regarding this issue.

Thanks

AK

Google changed the way Android works.  There is little HP can do about it!

Perhaps this article can help explain how Google changed Android KitKat 4.4:

KitKat and SD cards — what's fixed, what's broken and what's misunderstood.

Hello,

Also note that you can still plug your Slate 21 into a "normal" computer and move the files manually.  You just can't use Android to move the files.

Your file explorer should still read all files on the SD card.

Hi Chris,

To be frank, i got rid of my "Normal Computer" for this slate 21. I considered this as a desktop until now. Is there a way to go back to Jelly bean 4.2 Or 5.0 Lollipop hopefully ?

HP Recommended

Hello,

You can reset your machine to Jelly Bean and restore the SD card functionality:

That should be generic to the Slate 21 -- what is your exact model number? (Ex. Slate 21-xxxx)

@ChrisT

If this works, it will be the only HP device that has the ability to revert to Jelly Bean!

It has been reported many times that it is impossible to go backwards due to the design of the update.zip file that HP offers.   Since it does not have a bootloader built into it, all attempts will normally fail...

Chris,

My slate model is "SLATE 21-k100". I tried the procedure you told me. It did not work i got the error as below. The update file size was only 262.27MB got from

But the link which you had given me showed a screen shot of 416.74MB.
