Wyrenut,

I wished to know if is it possible to make app specific directories in a USB device. this I know is possible with SD cards. If it was possible, ti would solve half my problems.

Ho w do I connect my Slate 21 to a normal computer? Please don't just say "via USB" - I assume I would need a male/male USB cable??

Hi all,

Apologies for digging around a dormant thread. I've read these replies, and others elsewhere, and the links explaining why Google changed access to external drives...  and I think I understand it... but can you just confirm in simple terms. I've tried downloading file managers that people say can write to an SD card. I've tried moving them to the SD card. I've tried creating a folder on the SD card (so that the App 'owns' that folder), I thought about re-formatting the SD card but can't find a way to do it...

All I want to do is move some existing pictures and other content off the internal storage and onto either an SD card or a USB stick.

Is that absolutely impossible?

If not, can you give a step by step process to achieve this, including the app I should use, possible long key press menus, when to breathe 🙂 More than happy to RTFM but I can't find this in the FM.

Also, reason for doing all this is to free up space on the internal storage. During my fun with various file managers I found there was about 1.2 GB data tied up in what it called 'thumbnails' (can't remember the directory) but I can't imagine I have that many thumbnail images I care about. Is there an easy way to see what that is, perhaps review any such thumbnails in a list (not just a file name) so I can make a decision on deleting them?

Hi!, MCL1:

Google Android OS 4.4.x, is not available, for copy, move, edit or, delete any data from or to, external device, included SD. Your can use, without problem, FTP (file transfer protocol), for connect with PC. The .apk File Manager HD, allow for this method.

Kind Regards !.
Have a nice day !.

Wow. Thank you Make for a solution that works 🙂 Took a while to setup ftp client and navigate to the correct storage but got there in the end. Many thanks!

Google reversed this limitation for Android 5.0 Lollipop, and you can give any app permission to write to the SD Card.

Of course this relies on HP ever releasing an Android 5.0 update for the HP Slate 21 and/or HP Slate 21 Pro.

HP only just gave us 4.4 in April 2015, and 4.4 was released by Google in Oct 2013 - a year and six months earlier!!!

Android 5.0 came on in Oct 2014, so based on HP's abysmal service, we'd be lucky to see it on the Slate 21 before April 2016.

Unbelieveable I know 😞
