Hi,

I bought this HP x2 10-p005na mini laptop to use when travelling. Before buying I read some articles that stated that it would only charge fast with the genuine charger but would charge when turned off slowly with any charger. I was therefore expecting to be able to charge this with a standard 5V USB charger using a USB A to USB C cable. 

So far I have not been able to get it to charge with anything other than the HP charger. 

Can anybody confirm whether it is possible to charge this without using the official charger. I would like to have one charger capable of charging everything, surely that was the point of the "universal" in USB.
Reading about USB C power delivery & charging is quite confusing. Most articles I have read say that when the devices are connected they start on the standard 5V and negotiate higher voltages if both devices are suitable (no idea what happen if you connect a hub with a device running at 15V, then add a 5V device), if this doesn't happen, like for example when connecting a USB 2.0 device it will stay at 5V. The HP charger has outputs 5V 2A, 9V 3A, 15V 3A, so at 15V it can provide the 45W stated. It's 5V 2A output is way more than would be needed just to negotiate the higher voltage faster charging so I would assume this is also for charging.


So, it should in theory when using a standard USB charger, connect at 5V, there will be no negotiation so should default to slow charging at 5V.


Is there any way of making this charge from a universal charger (which was the whole point of USB C)? Either using the USB C port or possibly the USB 3.0 port. Maybe a charger with a dedicated USB C port may work but most of these are still only 5V so I assume this is just a connector without the necessary circuitry to communicate with the laptop.


Has anybody managed to get this to charge for a non-HP charger?
