I haven't yet seen a direct answer to post #99, so I'll repeat it.

Does anyone have a thumbs-up or thumbs-down for a SanDisk 8GB microSDHC Card with the Palm Centro?

-Palm Centro (AT&T)

-4GB Patriot Micro SD (HC)

Card is recognized in its entirety by the "Card Info" application -- "12.0 KB Used; 3894.8 MB Free of 2894.8 MB"

Only 489 MB is made available to Windows Media Player.  I am assuming that this is a software limitation.  The card did accept music, and I was able to listen to all uploaded MP3s that would fit within the 489 MB.  Also, images taken with the Centro's camera were stored to the card outside of the afformentioned 489 MB.

I recommend this card.

We just put an 8GB Patriot Micro SD in my wife's Palm Centro and it appears to only be able to use about 3.6 GB.

Checking your SC cards for performance and capacity. Also formatting them.

I posted this here: http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=hardware&thread.id=34978

Main text below:

From experience, here's a way to check if your recent overseas flash memory deal is bonafide or not. Usually not. If you can't read your card on a device, you can't format it, nor can you format an SD card on your desktop because the format is proprietery. You'll need to go here to get a small formatting program which formats both SD and SDHC. http://www.sdcard.org/about/downloads/ If you're experiencing read and write times that are obviously slower that specifications (SD is min 2MB/s), it is an indication that you have bad/fake technology. In addition to these fakes being smaller chips modified to read larger capacities, it appears you can write the claimed amount, but the files will be corrupt. Here's a program that will do the checking for you and report the actual size and other associated errors: I use the h2testw_1.4 program, but another is listed: http://blogs.ebay.co.uk/amnman They're small executables. Just plop them on your desktop and run. No conflicts on Vista, btw. All in all, handly to have, but better to buy from a trusted source online or retail. Age-old adage: You get what you pay for.

Actually had you taken the time to read the SD spec you'd know that the claim of "SD is at least 2MB/s" comes out of nowhere. According to the specification, a card can refuse to run at any clock higher than 400 KHz and can refuse to use 4-bit bus, thus having a maximum top speed of 400 Kbit/s or in your terms - 50 KByte/s. This card would still be a VALID and SPECIFICATION-COMPLIANT SD card

All of the following cards are original spec, not SDHC. I have no SDHC cards to test.

4GB Ridata Pro 150X full-size SD card, FAT32 filesystem

Tested and works fine with the following handhelds:
Tungsten E
Tungsten T5
Note that the FAT32 driver needs to be installed to access capacity above 2GB. Also, formatting the card from the Card Info applet fails. Formatting as FAT32 from Windows with the T5 in Drive Mode works fine though. In fact, it's how I formatted this card for use. (my USB memory card reader doesn't work right with the 4GB card for some reason)
It's worth noting that I've haven't tested it when the card has 2GB or more OCCUPIED; Card Info reports that the full capacity is about 3.8GB, which is within expected parameters, but I'm only using about 200MB.

Tested and does NOT work with:
Zire 31
Even with a clean system to which was added the FAT32 driver, I still couldn't get the 4GB card to work.

Kingston 2GB microSD, (SKU SDC/2GB) FAT16 filesystem, using supplied Kingston adapter for full-size SD slots
Works fine with:
Tungsten E
Tungsten T5

Doesn't work with:
Zire 31
Again, the same clean Zire 31 system+FAT32 driver wouldn't even acknowledge the card. Formatting the card from the T5's Card Info app works, but formats using the FAT filesystem even with the FAT32 driver present. Seems logical to conclude that this is the reason formatting the 4GB card fails.

Kingston 1GB microSD, SDC/1GB, FAT32 filesystem, using the same Kingston adapter as with the 2GB
Works fine with:
Tungsten E
Tungsten T5
Zire 31

As posted above: with stock driver Z31, E2, TC will not see card 2gb or more (it will also see SOME 4GB non-sdhc cards). t5,tx,ld,z72 can see 4gb non-sdhc cards, te,z71,tt,tt2 can see 2gb cards

With the PowerSDHC app from PalmPowerups.com all of those devices can use cards up to 32G.

The current limitations are hardcoded in the current slot drivers of those devices

I currently use an 8GB microSD card with my Treo 800w. Any word on if the new 16GB cards will work as well or if the drivers will be updated to support them?

PNY 8GB SDHC card not even detected by Lifedrive. Added Dmitry's software--card is detected! Loaded a few mp3s on card via hotsync (my readers don't work with the card--couldn't format (maybe not being able to format with a reader was good!))--must pick unlabeled-blank space (should be labeled "Memory Card") between "LifeDrive" and "HTTP" in "Select" menu of MMPLayer to see Palm and Audio folders (the latter is where these tunes may be viewed for MMPlayer). MP3s play, so my problems may be solved, albeit imperfectly. In Pocket Tunes, it's also a blank space, yet it's between "LifeDrive" and "Internet Radio" from its "Choose Tunes" menu. Pocket Tunes plays tunes on the card, also. Didn't format the card with the Lifedrive, either....

As for Dmitry's software, find the detailed instructions and follow them as closely as possible, starting with setting up an account with Dmitry's company (username, password)--install is not completely straightforward (to protect the company's intellectual property with user codes). I purchased full usage of the software (via a Palm Key), not being certain that it would work (it's best, instead, to start with the trial version)--I wanted to support Dmitry in any case for his tirelessness in taking this difficult project on and for his patience with us! Thanks, Dmitry! Now, I need to ugrade my card readers yet again....

Tested and worked:

Palm Treo 755p

with

Kingston 8GB Multi-Kit Mobility Kit (8GB microSD SDHC card in the miniSD adapter that came with the kit)

only displays 3496 MB in Card Info, and the free size "wraps" around (goes to 0 MB then back up to >3000 MB), but it works.
