It has been some 3 months since I've bought a HP laptop. It has been working fine but from the past week, I'm having issues with charging the laptop. My laptop charges very slow (1% in some 20,25 minutes) while my laptop is shut. So, I've to start my Windows 10 laptop, then restart it , and then keep it open. Then, it starts charging normally.
Also sometimes, it charges normally even while it's shut. Pretty weird.
All the drivers of my laptop are up-to-date. I even removed and reinserted my laptop's battery many times but that didn't helped either. So, please help me to fix this problem.
My laptop details:
HP Notebook 15-ay503tx
OS : Windows 10(64 bit)
RAM: 8 GB (DDR4)
Processor: intel core i5 6200U
BIOS version/date :Insyde F.24 , 05-Jan-17

Hi @owais3,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand that your computer is taking a long time to charge, is that right?
Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.
Have you run a diagnostics on your computer?
Have you tried to update all the drivers using HP Support Assistant?
Are you using the same power adapter that was bundled with your computer?
Let's try these steps here:
Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,
Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.
Also, Go through them all and let me know what you have determined is causing the issue. The first document has the most relevant troubleshooting if your battery appears to be not charging.
Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge
I would suggest please update the BIOS and Chipset drivers on your PC and check if it helps, using this link.
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
Run a battery test using F2 (during restart), if the test failed:
Check with an alternate battery.
I would suggest here is to try with an alternate compatible charger and check if that helps.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to run a test on the AC Adapter from F2 (Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

My laptop still charged very slow(3% in 30 minutes) when it was shut. So, I had to open my Windows 10 laptop and then restart it. Then, it started charging normally.
Now, the only thing left is updating the BIOS. I checked HP's site and an update to my laptop's BIOS version is available. So, should i do it? I read on web that updating the BIOS is not recommended if you don't have a strong reason to do it. I guess I've a strong reason. Right?
And yes, I'm using the same power adapter that was bundled with my laptop and the drivers are up-to-date.
Waiting for your response, sir.
