Ian,
Thanks for sharing your unbeliveable and disappointing experience with the Omni 10. I have to give you my repect for being diligent with sticking with HP support and gong through this painful process only to have the same issue retrun time and time again.
I too had the same error with the HID controller and thought that this was software related then but after replacing the drivers many times I got really discouraged. Then found that I could live with this issue by doing simply doing the "bend" trick or simply restarting the computer. Luckily, this is not my main computer so it only happens occassionally.
I really do wish you luck in getting seeing if you get a credit toward a new prodct. If this product were a car, then your history with this product would most likely qualify for the "lemon" law in the US where you could get your money back because a consumer shouldn't have to go through this pain when a product doesn't make it through the warranty.
Thanks again for sharing your story.

As an update to my situation, unfortunately I'm a couple months past my warranty period so I'm just dealing with it.
Since I first posted back in early January that the bend would fix this issue, I'd have to say I've had to use the bend solution several times to fix the problem. A couple of other times, the tablet had issues that weren't related to that problem and simply needed a reboot to get things back to normal with the touchscreen.
I use this tablet daily for about 30-min to 1 hour typically cruzing the net and checking emails and not much more, so this issue is more of an annoying inconvenience that I'm having to deal with because HP had a bad design or bad materials used in manuafacturing this tablet. I feel really disappointed in HP because of this issue. I feel like the guinea pig/beta tester that spent my hard earned money on a product that should not have this type of problem.
If things get worse then I'll repost but at this time it is just a real annoying inconvenience that has me upset with HP.
Hope this helps.

FWIW my tablet has continued to lose touchscreen input regularly, but after attaching a keyboard (via an OTG adapter at first, then bluetooth) I've been able to work out that it's always associated with automatic Win8 updates.
When the touchscreen stops working I now use the keyboard to search for update settings, make sure I select all the optional updates (I've no idea what they do, I just select everything!) then force the tablet to update immediately.
So far this has always worked. It's a pain in the backside, but it seems to work for me.
Hope this helps someone else.

I agree - Window 8 updates do cause the screen to fail which might suggest that its HPs drivers that at the root of the problem. I havent tried this but perhaps turning off automatic update would improve the situation but then you'll have to update at some point but at least you can be prepared with a hardwired/bluetooth keyboard at the ready.
Personally I gave up using my Omni a few month back, too many locks ups and un responsive touch screens to use it seriously. I took the back off it a couple of weeks ago to see if I could spot anything obvious that would make the bend the screen fix work. The only thing I found useful was the ability to disconnect the battery from the mainboard which fixed the touchscreen until the next windows update messed everything up again. Maybe flexing the screen and mainboard causes the connections to seperate which is enough the restart the touch screen?

Well, I feel stupid. I didn't post what I said above until I was confident it was right. But yesterday my Omni10 stopped responding to touch while I was out walking the dog. There are no updates available, and when I looked there hadn't been any installed recently automatically which might have affected things.
Before I felt I was finally in control of this messy bit of hardware. But now I think it's controlling me... or at least, controlling my anger hormones. 😉 I know I should just take it to the local dump and get it on the boat back to China for recycling (into pollution, mainly, from what I hear), but there's a stubborn streak in me which doesn't like to give in even though there's only one thing worse than a bad bit or hardware... and that's an unreliable peace of hardware.
I need to let this go, don't I? 8-)

I have had a similar experience with my Omni 10 as well. I went so far as upgrading to Windows 10, and while it did work for a few hours, it stopped abruptly and despite many reboots, re-installs and just about everything else I could think of, I was unable to get it to work. Since my warranty had expired already, I decided to open it up and figure out the issue. I found that the loss of the touch screen function was caused by a poor contact on the digitizer connection. I noticed that when I would press it down firmly, the touch screen would work, and upon releasing it would not. So how to fix it? I tried at first with some foam tape (weather stripping) to keep the pressure on the connector, which worked for a few days until the tape became permanently imprinted with the circuit relief... I went a step further and used some harder rubber from a gasket, cut into strips and piled on top until the correct thickness was achieved, then taped down with a strip of electrical tape. For good measure, I also added the foam weather stripping tape to each of the other connectors.
I realize this process will certainly void your HP warranty if your tablet is still covered, but in the case where it is not, it is better than throwing it away...

@crazyk,
Thanks for posting your solution. i'm out of my warranty and this is my kind of fix.
i've been tempted to do the same thing for months but just keep putting it off because issue is only sporadic. i've done things like this on xbox and another laptop. Electrical tape and rubber gaskets are my go to space filling material. i haven't used your fix yet, but may do so if this problem gets any worse.
thanks again.

@AndyR1,
Based on my experience, the fix that CrazyK used will deal with about 90% of the touch issues but the Omni has some other issues that only a simple reboot will fix. So if you feel like this fix doesn't take care of it, just do a the reboot and I'll bet you'll see that you'll get ĉlose 99% satisfaction related to the touch screen issue.
Now if it could charge it overnight without occasionally getting locked up in a fully lit display mode which also requires a reboot, then i might get close to satisfied again with this tablet but i digress......
Andy, what power coonection isssue are you talking about? I know some complain about a loose connection, but mine isnt in too bad of shape but i try to be pretty carefull about how i charge it by not putting it in a wierd angle or too much stress on the power connection.

Thanks Geohec,
Have personally found the issue with the touchscreen was hardware related as the touchscreen wouldnt work in the BIOS. I have had to sort out the problem with the driver previously, but have found that since a clean install of windows (as per one of my previous posts - how to reinstall using a Windows ISO on a USB stick) I havent been having driver issues on both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, just the hardware problem (which took a good number of reboots before it worked, and was getting progressively worse). Touch wood, everything appears to be working since I have used the CrazyK fix.
Regarding the problem with the power, I find that my Omni 10 doesnt charge unless pressure is being put on the cable going into the tablet or the cable is held at an angel - I have gotten around this by charging overnight and balancing the tablet on its side against the power lead.
Havent tried a different power lead as have been more annoyed by the touchscreen issue! (This is now my second Omni as first was replaced under warranty due to the touchscreen, and annoyingly the second warranty expired a couple of months ago, before I had a chance to put in a claim)
