I think it is solved! I did a hard reset, but did not restore settings to a previous state. I was running Insider Build on previous device. Maybe that had something to do with it. This time I started with a clean slate. Now 2 days without a single freeze. HP has even sent me a replacement device and I may send it back. Hope this helps.

Hello Joe,

As I advised I did work with a specialist pertaining your case. At this time the issue you are experiencing is being caused by a known issue and we are waiting for a software patch that should be released in the near future that will resolve the issue. We would also make the recommendation to disable the NFC functionality, as this has been proven to cause some delay as well.

If you require additional information, or have more questions please REPLY TO ALL on this email.

Due to the resolution being in the hands of Microsoft releasing the software patch, would you feel comfortable with me archiving the case? It will still be a valuable reference point and can be accessed in the future if any future issues arise.

Hi everyone well I'm in the same place as all who has this problem, it's so much of a problem that I cannot really use the phone it locks up all the time black screen with the red light saying on in the top left corner.

I have done a hard reset time after time, I really need some help before I end up throwing it in the bin.

Since I activated the iris scanner (and not just the fingerprint reader only) with the hp flip cover I'm unable to repro the issue - 2 days and counting...

Somehow i doubt the flip cover will make a difference. In a different thread someone ditched the cover and had luck. The issue IMO seems to be like a countdown from a reset or clean install. It is fine for some time and then starts, is horrific for a couple of days, then subsides. Ive had the phone since February and have had the issue on every firmware and OS release, including Insider builds, since then. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE to see the silence from HP on this issue. I highly doubt its an OS issue. My wife is a journalist and has this happen to her phone(of course) more than mine and we are clinging to the platform it this point. She got hers in April, gave up and shelved it to go back to her 950 until July. Still happening, but she sticks with it due to the incredible battery life. Ive turned off NFC, so we will see if that helps. But HP, you need to get off you behinds and get us an answer to this. ESPECIALLY if you are working on a new one or even an Android variant. If its due to hardware, that same piece may be in the new device. You cant just casually test for a few days, mine works great for weeks post reset or fresh. Even OS updates calm it down.
