I am unable to stop/pause the windows update on my laptop. I tried to run the command

net stop wuauserv

Using adminstrative privileges but still the access was denied. The system showed error 5, access denied.

@Sourav14,

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to know how to disable Windows updates.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

What is the exact model for your computer?

Meanwhile, follow the below steps to stop the Windows updates.

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for gpedit. ...
  3. Navigate to the following path: ...
  4. Double-click the Configure Automatic Updates policy on the right side. ...
  5. Check the Disabled option to turn off the policy. ...
  6. Click the Apply button.
  7. Click the OK button.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

P.S: Welcome to the HP Support Community 😊
