Yes, I just tried with Senheizer cans, and you're right.

Looks like someone forgot about the head settings.

There are 3rd party mixers which could help a bit (just a bit), but I would suggest a really awesome app (although not exactly the easiest app and you might need some audio knowledge, but I guess you have it) called Viper4Android.

Also having audio issue where the speaker sounds like crap now. Brutal that they didn't ensure Slate 21 kept its amazing quality and now it's down to the lowest common denominator.

I saw a post about the sound issue. It said that that was a bug that the latest 4.4.2 image fixed, but that fix does not if you just upgrade. You have to install the 4.4.2 update and then do a factory reset to fix the sound.

HP Android support has been abysmal, releasing OS updates 18 months late, and buggy to boot.

All of the recovery rom links HP has posted are broken, and the support page asks what version of Windows you HP Slate 21 is running!

I found this unoffical cache of HP Slate 21 (not Pro) recovery and OTA update images.
