You dont need a software update, a higher voltage or amperage power inverter ( Wall-Plug ) or a shorter cable  to get it to charge while in use.   However a better AC converter is a better fix as I'll mention in my second post.

Contrary to everything you can or will find online minus what I've spent the last few hours posting all over the net you will not find this info but through me for the moment.

It's the easiest thing in the world and am surprised that HP didn't know or didn't want to offer this info.

If you've got a Stream 7 that charges when turned off but not while on even if plugged in heres your

solution.

Swipe your screen from right to left, click settings, next click screen and set you brightness to just below half way.

No need to restart or anything else just apply and go.

You can click your battery icon to confirm the message ( Plugged in, Charging ) If it still reads ( Plugged in, Not charging Kick the brightness down a lil more till you get the charging message in the battery indication icon.

Thats that., No money spent, no fuss no major effort or magical requirements,  especially sending your tablet back to HP to be fixed. Problem solved that simply. Enjoy your now charging Stream  7

your welcom HP for finding a solouting to an overlooked fault in your tablet. The draw on the battery from the system with brightness up out weighs what the charger is able to supply while in use and on charge. Drop the voltage needs of the board by about .5volts ( which isnt logical as it'll starve the system for needed  power during performance ) or up the charger output to 5.5volts 2 amps Over the stock 5.0volt 1.2amp to support screen brightness up and allow charging while in use.

This is a proven theory outside of dropping the screen brightness, Dropping screen brightness is an effective free fix, However the  system works fine Brightness maxed on a 5.5vot 2 amp wall plug regardless of cable length.  ( Within Reason ) I'm Running a 6 foot cord on 5.5v  2amp  max bright & getting charge while in use.

Took me 2 hours to find this problem and resolve it. I've found posts all over the net from 6 months ago. No one has found a working reason. You should higher me or a few people like me to beta test new products and resolve all your bugs B4  you shelf  your products. I'll do it free If I get to keep the product after.

A few free products here an there has to be worth having a few beta testers to make sure your products hit the shelf ready to go, user friendly & free of  problems.  A happy consumer is a repeat consumer. Thats just good business.

will a 5.5v 2a charger hurt my battery? i was told it may by a friend who is an electrician.

HP Recommended

Do not use a higher voltage charger.

Use a charger with a higher rated maximum current output, 1.5-2Amps.

Increasing voltages can cause damage.

Using a higher current rated charger will not.

Holy cow!

I was soooooo close. Had screen set to just below 50% and all it took was a smidge more and all is good.

Since you got, not a tweety bird from HP, I'm giving you a great big THANK YOU!!!!!
