Go to Realtek Network Card Advanced Property. Enable "Wake on Pattern Match". The sleep button should work again.

It does!  Uh, wow.  wow.

Bingo we have a winner! That fixed it. I can press the power button and it sleeps, press it again and it wakes right up. Perfect.

BTW, I have no idea how the sleep button will tie to a network card properties. Apparent some engineer failed to get the button to work properly, and just hack it thru with a chain saw. Sigh. Hp quality.

Well it is a $100 tablet. I'm still mind blown it's x86 and I can play Halo PC, Age of Empire 2, Star Craft 1, etc on it. Plus full PC version of Steam and I can stream games from my desktop.

That 'fix' didn't work for me. Same problem as the o.p. Any other magic settings to put this tablet to sleep?

I upgraded to the most recent BIOS, released 2015-01-06.

Either it fixed the issue, or reset some setting that caused the problem to begin with. For what its worth, toggling the network adapter setting as previously suggested had no effect.

I had the same problem. Power button worked correctly for weeks, then doesn't.

Solution in my case was to do the Charm -> Power and then say "Restart".  Shutdown and reboot does not fix the problem - only "Restart" does!!!       Un believable....

😉

Thanks for everyones help!

My wife's stream 7 had this problem.  The realtek item was enabled when I got there.  I disabled/restarted and power switch would do nothing, returned and enabled the realtek item and the slide to shutdown problem was fixed.

Just in case others have to add the step to cure the problem.

Odd, this did not happen to my stream????
