The "±" symbol in written math expressions is shorthand for two separate operations, a plus and a minus. It is NOT a single operator. Therefore, when you enter the quadratic formula into Prime (or any other computer) you must enter the whole expressions twice, once with "+", and once with "-".
If you want Prime's "±" character for use in Notes, press Shift Vars (Chars) and press down-cursor 7 times. Notice that it's character 177, same as on your computer.
