Hi Gregg_SA, welcome to the HP Forums. I understand someone placed a login password in place, and you do not know it. You can try the steps outlined in this document first: What to Do When You Forget Your Sign-in Password (Windows 😎

If that fails you will have to perform an HP System Recovery: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 😎

I hope this helps.

Hey @Tennis117 ,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand you have forgotten the password to log in to your notebook.

If you are running Windows 8 or 8.1 you may be able to reset your password from another PC on the Microsoft website. This only works if you use a live account. If you do, you can access the password reset here: Microsoft Password Reset.

If you use a local account in Windows 8 or 8.1, you can reset the password in the Command Prompt by following these steps: How to reset a Windows 8 password.

If you are using Windows 7, I suggest following this guide: I Forgot My Windows 7 Password! How Do I Get Back In?

Thanks! 🙂
