Many thanks for trying.

I'll contact HP with this thread & see what they suggest next.

hi, Did you ever solve this onboard speaker problem?  My elite pad has the same issue.  TP

same problem for me, I have a feeling its related to Windows 10...???

Solved, but via the rather drastic measure of returning it to hp who replaced to motherboard and returned it with windows 8 back again. Now have Windows 10 reinstalled and speakers working.

Good luck.

  • Onboard speakers stopped working after removing auxillary cable from headphone jack
  • BIOS system audio test continues to PASS, successfully generates sound through speakers

Did HP provide any explanation of the problem?   I'd hate to send mine to HP for repair if a software/firmware fix is available. How long did take to process your claim to resolution?

I've seen this issue discussed regarding other Z3795 Bay Trail tablets.  I'm experiencing the same problem with my EP1000G2... went through all the steps mentioned.  Also running Win 10 pro 64.

As noted above: when running the system audio test in the bios system diagnostic tool, it consitently produces sounds correctly through the speakers. I can't tell if the audio test runs on the sound card or just system sound (if possible).

From the beginning, I noticed the speaker and headphone output volume was noticeably low.  One day using the auxillary cable on my car stereo, the max volume was lower than usual.  I tested the connections.  When I pulled the aux cable plug from the headphone jack - then reinserted - the volume level seemed restored.  Later that day, I noticed the onboard speakers were no longer working.

Sorrey for the delay in reply;

No no explanation, no note at all came with it.

They said they would take a painful 3½ weeks, but I think returned in abt 10d.

As I'd hope HP would be able to solve most problems within an hour or two of the hp technician picking it up, the long projected time seems unreasonable for a business department. I guess it's just backlog, that's not been cleared.

I'm still putting-up with the 5 second remote screen black-outs every couple of hours, guess that's different problem. I making the most of it, by trying a 5 sec Buddist chant.

The maximum speaker volume did seem surprisingly low to us. Too low for a many business environments. But we have two and they are the same.

Geoff,

what is "the 5 second remote screen black-outs every couple of hours"?

IF this is during a remote session, what software are you using?

I havent heard of any blackout issues for remote sessions or any other 5 second black screen issues.

Does the screen black out during other processes also?

Has anyone managed to resolve this issue?

After connecting my elitepad to the docking station the internal speakers have stopped. I can only play sound now via headphone jack and bluetooth.

unfortunately my warrenty ended 15th Jan 2016. So cannot contact HP support.

Please help. Really don't fancy reinstalling windows if i can help it

hi i really need assistance. The only way i can get sound is via bluetooth speakers or headphones.

All this occurred when i docked the tablet and used the audio out on the docking station.

is there an issue in the bios?

please help. i've tried all the steps with drivers and restarting services. i haven't rebuild o/s yet. not sure if that will solve it based on other user issues.

With others having the same problem HP should help us here.

A follow-up to my earlier post -

- Sent unit to HP for repair mid Nov 2015
- Repair turnaround less than 1 week
- Flawless customer service... it's true!
- Significant hardware replacement NO CHARGE
  (still under warranty)
- Now only one speaker working

After exhausting everything I knew (or imagined I knew) to restore sound to the external speakers, I decided to send it back for repairs. I created a support ticket with HP and received the return container via FedEx overnight... on a Sunday - shocked the !@## out of me 😮

From accounts of crazy lengthy repair times and miscommunication, I typed a detailed summary describing everything regarding my issues, self mitigation, and contact information. Kept it short and concise (with hopes of speeeding up the process). Made it look like it was generated from a company tech support team.  (I have no idea if any of this helped expedite the matter... maybe good for a laugh)

Included the following:
- symptoms of the failure (see my previous post)
- troubleshooting steps from HP, MS, and forum input
- Listed all OS, app software, options and peripherals I installed

Shipping preparation:
- Made an image copy and backed up files
- unistalled all my stuff
- restored to factory OS image (did this atleast twice attempting DIY fix)

Shipped it off Monday morning, HP sent explanation of repair, got it back by the weekend. Amazing! I don't have the repair invoice with me, but I eseentially have a new unit!

We were getting ready to travel prior to Thanksgiving and was looking foward to using my reborn EP1000G2 on a long plane ride. I eagerly fired it up and now only one speaker works.

Discovered a  new undocumented feature! My unit has been upgraded with ESELAO (enhanced super extra-low audio output)!  Competing with plane's engine noise, wired premium earbuds are efffectively reduced to earplugs!  Adding more disappointment. Hurray for rooted android phones - plenty loud at half volume!

Conclusion: HP customer service was stellar!!! ... that is worth mentioning since their tech service is most likely a separate entity. The tech guys went all out too, but missed the quality check.

I should send it back ... I still may.  However, Santa kicked in with a sweet sounding Bluetooth speaker (loud too), so I've been playing through the pain.

Bottom Line ... I just don't care anymore... I'm tired of fooling with it.  I'm a quitter.

Except for the speaker problem, the unit performs amazingly in other ways (like as a really cheap dependable PC in tablet clothing - gorilla glass!) surpassing my expectations. The add-ons are really cheap if you can find them...

- came with free productivity jacket and exec pen
- Security jacket with smart card reader ($49)
- docking station with smart charger (like new $59)
- basic rubberised travel jacket with cover (3 @ $11.99)
- travel usb charging cable adapter (new $22)

The reason I'm saying any of this is (for me) the positives for these tablets far outway the audio issue. HP should rectify, but it's just not going to happen.  For them, the platform as an all-purpose business solution was a big failure.  There's still a pile of these out there with all the quirky addons at a mere fraction of the cost.

Time for a refill... Makers on ice!
