I have an HP Envy laptop with a Ryzen processor. It has been plagued with numerous problems and has been shipped back for repairs under warranty three times already. It continues to have problems with frequently freezing and it crashes a couple of times a day, with a BSOD (blue screen of death) displaying a number of different error messages. But that's not what I'm here to talk about.
I have now encountered a new problem, with the audio settings. The problem appears to be identical to the one discussed in this thread: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/Default-Sound-format-rate-grayed-out-no-eq-for-Bluetoot...
Specifically, under Sounds -> Playback -> speaker properties -> advanced tab -> default format for the default speakers, it is impossible to change the quality settings from 16 bit, 48000 Hz. The box for changing it is greyed out. I have already tried updating all drivers and doing a clean restart; the problem persists. This may seem like a minor issue; but there are applications that crash on opening, and help forums suggest that this is a possible cause. I note that the asker in the thread linked above never seemed to get resolution for this issue. Has anyone else had better luck?
