I have an HP USB-C dock with an external set of speakers plugged in via the 3.5mm outlet on the front of the dock. When I unplug the USB C cable from the laptop the external speakers immediately start to hum / buzz. The sound is similar to the buzz your would hear if you touched the 3.5mm headphone plug with your finger.
When a laptop is plugged into the dock with the USB C cable it works great and the speakers sound great. There is no problem whether the laptop is powered on or off, as long as the USB-C cable from the dock is plugged into the laptop.
This is a brand new dock and I have already returned it and gotten another brand new dock. The problem persists. I replaced the speakers with brand new speakers. The problem still persists. The symptoms point to a grounding issue but I don't think that's what it is because all the terminals are grounded and the problem happens whether I plug the dock directly into the wall or if I plug it into a confirmed grounded surge protected power strip.
Dock is model L13898-002 or Y0K80AA#ABA. It's simply listed in the HP store as HP USB-C Dock. The one with the blue bottom and usb-c connector coming out the side. Many ports in the back, and then the front has a 3.5mm outlet, a USB C and USB A outlet.
Please help! I've tried all I can and still get this buzz every time I undock my laptop.
