I have been working to find the source of rather high CPU activity when the laptop is just sitting idle or the lid is closed in "sleep" mode. I noticed if I left the Task Manager screen open and walked away, coming back to find CPU usage at ~30% or so. The minute I tried to scroll down to see what was using the resources it would start to taper off quickly.

Well I finally found the culprit. It's a service called "HP Analytics service". I disabled this service and voila, now I'm not seeing high CPU activity while it's idle and the unit doesn't run with the lid closed, I don't hear the fans running and it's cold to the touch when I open the lid back up, NOT like before.

I also disabled two other services, though more out of privacy concerns that CPU usage.

Sensor Monitoring service - though if you use the fingerprint reader you might want this on

Sensor Data service
