Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For a long time i have been using second monitors with this laptop. Always via HDMI.

Recently purchased a HP m24FW monitor and connected it via HDMI.

For the first month it was fine but then:

1) would be detected and show in display but i would have to switch refresh rate and wait until i actually worked. Refresh rate default was 59.890hz and if i played around with display settings eventually it would work

THEN

2) the above no longer worked. I would have to turn the laptop on, let it connect and wait 5-10 minutes and eventually the second HP monitor would turn and work normally (until powered down)

THEN

3) nothing works. I have let it sit for 30 minutes and it never turns on anymore. The only way i can get the HP monitor to work is to change the refresh rate to 59.890hz (interlaced) but this causes flickering which is giving me headaches.

I went to Currys and bought the exact same monitor and tried it and the same problem persists which makes me believe this is now a problem with the laptop.

I have so far removed display driver, restarted and reinstalled.
I have been to HP support and installed any updates.

nothing has helped.

Please help.
