My device manager

 

(Sorry, but the OS have Danish language package - it's the thing listed as "Netværkskort").

I downloaded the HP Wireless Assistant, and installed it. I used the Vista version, and ran it through compatibility mode as Microsoft Vista. I can't get the application to run, when starting it through control panel.

 

I then went into the direct application folder of the Wireless Assistant and tried the various .EXE-files. The only EXE-file that responded was 'Wireless.exe', which is popping up a box with the text:

'The utility is used to adjust Wireless Devices State (ON or OFF). Wireless Devices must be enabled in Windows Device Manager, F10 Computer Setup and Wireless button before state can be successfully changed.


Command Line Parameters:

  Wireless <Device> <State>

where

  Device = [Bluetooth, WirelessLAN, WWAN, All]

  State [on, off]'

 

The button haven't been doing anything but being orange, ever since I installed Windows 7. (and doesn't change under startup - just pretty much instantly starts showing orange)

Try hard reset procedure:

 

  • Remove the power cord and battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Try starting with just the power cord attached first.

What we want to get from it. We want to have showed in device manager Your wireless card.

I did as you wrote, but nothing changed.

 

It's still just constantly orange, and the sliding the slider doesn't make it change.

This model is in the series with known wireless failures.HP even issued a Limited Warranty on many of these to offer free repair for 1 yr beyond the normal 1 yr warranty.The list I have only includes North America, though I had heard of another in European countries I have never found documentation.

You might try removing the wireless card, restart without it, then shutdown and reinstall it to see if that helps.

Do you know for sure the wireless was still working in Vista? Recently I was helping a poster with another model and he was reporting battery not charging. After several days of troubleshooting_he finally found out from the owner that the battery had been dead for several months. 🙂

I asked Cheryl to check Your posts here, but as I see She also thinks then this is hardware failure. I hope then this unmount and mount wireless card will change something.


I may add here one thing more. Hp service very often on dv6000 models must change whole motheboard to solve this problem, so changing wireless card for new one may not work.
