Please can you help... I suspect you have answered this question a hundred times....

I want to upgrade my dv9700 (dv9850ea) to Windows 7. When I run the Windows  Update Advisor it says I that 'Nvidia nforce System Management Controller' is not compatable.

If I went ahead - would I run into problems? And what problems and how to resolve?

Is there a way around it and if so - what?

thanks for any help

Thank you SO much, Daniel, for an extremely helpful post. Thanks to lots of other helpful contributors as well. I found this half-way through a clean install of Win 7 on my dv9535.

A couple of issues I still haven't resolved after reading and following suggestions. I read through the whole thread but may have missed something?

1) QLB not working. Installed the recommended HP Quick Launch Buttons but got errors on the install that it was known to be incompatible. Tried again, and got same error. What else to try? Install in safe mode?

Should I uninstall the QLB or is there a fix? I tried to uninstall and get this error: Loading hpqnt.dll failed. The softpaq files may be corrupted. Download the latest Softpaq and try again." I did download it again and try to reinstall and got same results.

[edited - I was able to uninstall after the uninstall failed, then clicked to let Win 7 uninstall it differently somehow - cant remember the wording]

2) Unable to download drivers from Realtek site. I've tried and tried, in different browsers, and cannot get to a downloadable file. I go to Hi Def Audio Codecs pg, click the box and hit Next, get a message that the file has moved so I click that link, and am sent back to the first Hi Def Audio Codecs pg. Endless loop.Tried in FF & IE many times over past few days. Emailed their support but no reply.

Can you post direct links to the specific downloadable files for Hi Def Autio and RTL8101  LAN?

[edited - tried on a friend's pc and it worked, so it's something on this pc I'm using temporarily, and couldt figure out what]

Hi,

Install all system apdates from Windows Update.

This may solve Your problem.

Note:

Don't install optional updates.

  1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.

  2. In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.

  3. If you see a message telling you that important updates are available, or telling you to review important updates, click the message to view and select the important updates to install.

  4. In the list, click the important updates for more information. Select the check boxes for any updates that you want to install, and then click OK.

  5. Click Install updates.

Read and accept the license terms, and then click Finish if the update requires it. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Note:

Some updates might require that you restart your computer to finish installing. Save and close all your programs before restarting to prevent data loss.

Hi,

So I understand then Your first problem is solved now and You have only problem with second issue?

If yes then just get this file from Your friends computer on pen drive and copy it on Your model.

Try to use other browser.

Maybe You've got problem with Internet Explorer only.

@All users which were having problems with fingeprint

Hi,

There is now completely new solution written for fingeprint sensors on first page.

You will find there three guides with screenshots, new drivers and software.

Notes:

It's important to uninstall all previous drivers and software like is showed in guide.

If You will not do this it will not work correctly.

Hi Daniel,

The product name of my notebook is dv6813TX. It has got a Blu-Ray ROM. Do I need a driver for the Blu-Ray ROM?

Thanks & Regards,

HP Recommended

You don't need any driver. It should be detected by system.

Dear Fellow HP Support Forum Users,

I am currently running Windows 7 x64 on a dual AMD processor.  Last night I downloaded the updated BIOS version F.32, which was stated to use on a Windows Vista x64 system.  However, since my laptop was running sluggish and there were some exclamations I could not fix, I decided to take the chance and upgraded the BIOS [from version F.30].

I am reporting that the program ran smoothly.  No problems at all.  It worked according to plan; furthermore, two of the exclamations are gone.

I followed the directions on a DV6586se with Win7. New Intel drivers and new nVidia drivers installed fine.

Everything works...EXCEPT there is NO signal on the VGA port for an external monitor.

The nVidia conrol panel "sees" the model number and resolution choices for the attached external monitor, but no video is seen. Tried 2 different monitors and 2 fifferent cables.

I thought i would never suceed in upgrading ( in reality i've made a clean installation) my HP Pavillion 6308nr notebook to Windows 7, but thanks to your post i did it without any issues.

Thanks a lot!!

Thanks Daniel, I have followed those instructions, but still no volume button control. Unless you have any other ideas, looks like I will just have to do without. I may try reverting to a clean install and follow your instructions again to see if that makes any difference, but don't have time now.

Cheers

Dougal
