After installing windows 7 professional,
q1] can I connect to the internet and download all the updates laid by windows update like security updates, critical updates etc?
OR
do I need to install first all the hp drivers and software mentioned in Daniel post and then download updates from windows update?

q2] Please let me know step by step which one to install first. eg 1] Audio drivers, 2] quick launch button, 3] nvidia, etc
Which is most important to install first?

Forget to mention last month i had the problem in power ribbon cable (this ribbon cable connects power button to motherboard) in my laptop so i have removed it But my quickplay button "power ribbon cable" were working fine so i had replaced this quickplay ribbon cable with power ribbon cable. At present i dont have ribbon cable for my quickplay buttons. i will buy power ribbon cable for quickplay button later because it is very difficult to get in India for hp notebook and little bit expensive. @Varadar
Hi,
I will answer on your questions shortly.
There is no BIOS update that would give you support for the Widnows 7 system.
Use Windows Update to install all necessary drivers.
Cyberlink YouCam is a software for the webcam.
The driver for the webcam is built-in the Windows 7 system.
When you will install all drivers and updates which are available through Windows Update, check device manager to find out do you need to install manually any driver or not. How to do it?
Go to:
Control Panel -> Device Manager
If there will be any device with yellow exclamation mark ( ) then right click it and choose ' Properties '. Next select ' Details ' tab, use the dropdown selector to choose Hardware Ids and paste values from there to your next reply. This way I will be able to find out which drivers you need.
Below you've got example how to do it:
How can you recover Vista in case of any problems?
It looks that you still have recovery partition, so you may use for example below solution.
1. Boot Windows 7 and click the Start button , in the search box type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter key.
2. This will launch the ' Disk Management ' which will show you all of the partitions.
4. Right-click on the ' Recovery ' partition and select ' Mark Partition as Active. '
5. When the warning prompt appears, select ' Yes '.
6. Reboot and it should automatically boot into the Recovery Manager (without pressing F11).

I know I'm late to this party but vista is so sluggish lately so I decided to upgrade to win 7. I have the DV6646US model and would like to know if I should update to the newest bios F34 BEFORE i install win 7.
i read from the last post there is no bios update for win 7 support but would it be a good idea to update the bios to F34 or stay where I'm at on F07. I've had zero problems with anything and my motto is ..if its not broke dont fix it.
So you guys think should I go ahead and update the bios to the most current anyway...or just leave it alone. Bios updates are scary and dont want to upgrade unless its necessary.
great guide btw...cant wait till my win 7 disc arrives to give it a try. I'm playing it safe and will install a new hard drive to install win 7 onto keeping my original hard drive with vista intact just in case I have to revert back. .which i hope not
thanks

hi,
this is an old thread, but then someone gave me this old dv6718ca!
it's actually still very functional and all the info here applies well...EXCEPT i can't for the life of me get the audio working!!
i keep getting the (Code 12) error with the High Definition Audio Controller: 'not enough resources'
the friend who gave me this computer said it was working fine under Vista. I suppose I should add that he gave me the computer without HD and i simply stuck in an old HD with Windows 7 x64 already on it!
everything else works fine tho.
any insights?
thanks,
al
