Hello,

we would like to change the place or Country of location on a LaserJet 400 M401 (wrong Country selected).

How to reset the in to virginally state since the first power on ?

Or, how to prepare for "Cold Reset" ?

Regards b.s.

Cold Reset HP LaserJet M401:

1. Turn the product off.

2. Perform one of the following steps:
 - LCD control panel models: Simultaneously press and hold the right arrow button and the Cancel button. Keep these buttons depressed as you turn the product on.

 - Touchscreen control panel models: Press and hold the lower right quadrant of the touchscreen. Keep the quadrant depressed as you turn the product on.
3. When the Permanent Storage Init. message appears on the display, release the buttons.
4. When the product has finished the NVRAM initialization, it returns to the Ready state.

Hi John,

Thanks for this reply. Unfortunately, I've got the very same issue with my HP LaserJet 400 M401dn. I cannot login to the printer because it requires a password and nobody here knows what it should be. I did as you suggested (both control panel models, as I don't know which one we have), but nothing of that sort helped. I also tried holding down the left edge of the panel and the right edge simultaneously, and it printed the configuration sheet, if that helps with identifying the printer model ... And as far as I can tell, it shows at least that holding down mysterious touch panel buttons has an effect. I just don't know how to initialize the cold reset 😕

Do you have any further suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
