So when I run the Scan Doctor 5.5.2 I get this screen shot.
I get a DNS error when I try to click "Get Update" and bounce out, like so.
Service Unavailable - DNS failure

If I manually plug in an "s" to the http protocol to try and access the fix I now get this error.
Access Denied

What should it be? http or https or even something else?
Any advice to fix this? Thank you!

Entschuldigung

Hello NewWorldMan, DNS problems may arise due to the firewall blockage, please disable for now. If Ethernet or wireless connections is connected from the router to the printer, check the connection. Log in to the router with IP address and check if printer with IP is listed. Log in with browser and associated IP address or router name, see instructions router. Printer should be listed in the router with IP address. In the operating system, printers should be marked as standard printers and be responsive. Your posted Scandoc picture doesn't tell me too much. Sorry, I don't know if Solution Center is already installed and if on which operating system. Please see if the printer is listed. Good luck.

Well,
The Solution Center is indeed installed, but that red label with the X is it, the one that needs updating.
I'll try disabling the firewall, for what that's worth, and see if it works.
I can't imagine needing to log into the router for anything but I'll try that if this other doesn't work. The printer is indeed listed, and is found by the scan doctor. It asks what needs fixing, printer or scanner and I chose scanner because that's what I need the Solution Center for! I'm on Win 7 64 bit.

after all this tail chasing, I'm now seeing this! 😖
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02463264#82e1f8f4-d288-4411-8053-f3682f36960e
it reads..."HP Solution Center is a printer management program for HP printers manufactured before 2010. HP Solution Center does not work when Flash software is not active on your system. Because Flash is no longer supported by the industry, HP Solution Center is also no longer supported."
How stupid to make people go through all of this fire drill stuff, if there's NO REAL update to it to make it work!

Yeah, disabling the firewall did not help.
still get

And this may be because HP DID NOT ACTUALLY UPDATE the software for this Solution Center app.

Hello NewWorldMan , if the Scandoc finds the printer, the connection to the PC should fit. So let the work with firewall and router. As you will have noticed here, many of the Solution Centers are no longer running because the flash service needed for this has stopped operating days ago. The problem is that there is probably no KB package for Flash uninstall for Windows 7. Then this would have to be manually removed from the system, otherwise the Solution Center requests the flash again each time you start it. This means that the app does not start at all. Especially since HP has also discontinued support on Windows 7 for some printers older than 7 years. My recommendation would be to upgrade to Windows 10. If you have a licensed Win 7 version, you should still be able to do so for free from the Windows 10 Update Wizard. Instructions are available on the Internet. The Solution Center will no longer work under Win 7.
