Color LaserJet M553x
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

 I have recently purchased for work a M553X  and a M553dn

So far we cannot use them.

From the config page printout they have the latest firmware  (3.8   2308209_000566)

It looks like they come with a default admin password  (certainly a printed configuration page states that the Admin Password is Specified.

If I access the EWS all I get is the Information page.  I cannot login  which I suspect is required to get at the other setup tabs.

From the printer control panel I have tried very many  factory resets but I suspect that since I cannot Sign in to the printer

this is in fact not doing anything  or it is putting the password back to the factory default which I cannot find anywhere.

Help!!!   I have 2 unused useless printers.

Rats.

Brand new "in-the-box" printers should not come with the Admin password specified.  Great feature, by the way -- unless you don't have the password...

Have you tried using "Admin" as the userid and clicking past the password?

OK -- Assuming you have done that (and printers are still locked), the best thing to do is to Contact HP Tech Support so a tech can safely guide you through the reset procedure.

Hint:  If, during the submission process (to have case number assigned), you run into issues trying to enter the information for two printers, submit a separate case request for each printer.  It is likely the Tech can help with both printers -- but each printer may indeed require its own ticket.
