Seems I also have the same problem.  On with HP support at the moment.  Mine is approximately a week old.  Printed great for a few days.  Then it required reboots.  Won't print webpages or PDFs.  I can occasionally get a MS word doc through after I clear everything out and reboot.

I was required to use the HP Universal driver via the cloud printing install.  Seems to be working correctly now.  We'll see how long that lasts.

Any chance you can expand on the HP Universal driver via cloud printing install or post a support article that shows how to do this install?
I tried the HP Universal driver today. The options I get are "Traditional Mode" and "Dynamic Mode". I tried Traditional Mode install and still encountered the same errors. Printer spins up as though its going to print but then quits and doesn't print and windows throws and error about a printer error state. All of this is on our replacement printer from HP, same model. I am still getting the same errors in the event log that I was on the previous printer as well. I'm really thinking the issue is the printers themselves more than drivers on the PCs since the event log on the printer is filled with those repeating errors still.

It has to be the HP Smart Universal Driver.  Try this one.  https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-smart-universal-print-driver-series-for-windows/...

God only knows why it has to be the HP Smart Universal Driver to work and it doesn't appear to be documented anywhere.  The HP support rep said this is the direction they are going with all new models.

I'm glad to have searched this out and found this thread!

I know it's only been a week, but before I dive into fixing this - Alyoung2, has the Smart Universal Driver fixed this issue?

Confirmed.  The Smart Universal Driver seems to have corrected all the weird printing failures.  It's been rock solid since the change in drivers.  Can't believe this isn't documented more.

Having same issues here on a replacement 4301fdw...random failure to print and errors popping on the system tray. Uninstalled and tried another Universal Driver based on a separate thread I found. HP Support recommended another that made my printer show up with "No Driver Available" (worse than when I started!).

Is there any additional info on the supported, rock-solid Smart Universal Driver (ie version, date released). I'm hesitant to install yet another "potential" solution without knowing 100% it is the correct one.

Before I go and install a new driver on the remaining eight employee's workstations that complain to me daily about our "new," latest version of Wirecutter's top choice printer...it would be helpful to have some assurance and any particulars about the install itself (ie via IP address, Dynamic, etc.) . I can't blame them...I'm also at my wit's end with this machine.

Thank you Alyoung2 for the quick response. I'll give this a go.

UPDATE: Driver referenced above installed via CMD prompt with TCP/IP option worked to correct the Google Doc that was throwing the error...but in testing other documents, now pdf's with images print a blank page. How did HP break something that didn't need fixing? It would be nice if HP would address this. Any other suggestions before I throw in the towel and return this monster?

Same issue here. Installed latest HP Smart UPD. Power off and on does seem to get it temporarily printing again. Not sure if number of prints or time that locks it up. Thanks for the information. If no answer soon and continued issues will be moving to a different printer, hopefully that's not the answer.
