HP Recommended

My CD Rom is not operating. I receive a code 39 that the driver is either corrupt or missing. How do I fix this issue? My computer is out of warranty. My laptop is the HP g72t wj744av. I do not know when this occured. I just did started it up yesterday and it ran some updates from windows for the operating system, for office 2007 and a few others. I uninstalled the dvd and reinstalled it with the same problem still there. Is there a fix for this other then going in deep and redoing the computer from scratch?
