Since I got this notebook about a year ago, I've had this infuriating problem that while typing in text in any application, every so often, the cursor will jump to another part of the text window, and occasionally, in addition to that, a block of text will be selected as well (and then promptly deleted if you keep typing). Obviously, this wreaks havoc on text entry, and you can even lose important text if you don't catch it happening right away. I have verified again and again that this occurs without ANY contact being made with the touchpad -- not even a light brush or anything (my hands aren't anywhere near the touchpad at all). Also, the mouse pointer doesn't seem to jump around, only the text cursor.
I have the latest Synaptics touchpad driver installed (v19.0.12.112), and I have also tried out the older version of the driver (19.0.12.104 Rev.A) from the HP download page, but none of this has made any difference.
What is going on here? Do I have a defective touchpad?
