Product: Officejet 5744

I bought a used 5744 printer which I can't use.  Error message says i must enroll in Instant Ink.  I believe the prior owner may have enrolled under her name.  so if the printer is already enrolled, I can't un-enroll under her name.  If the printer is not enrolled, I DO NOT want to enroll, then figure out how to un-enroll because I don't want Instant Ink.  Is this a scam or what?  Is forcing buyers to enroll in your program even legal???
