Notebook Wireless and Networking

UPDATE - Feb 6 2019:

Tried something new, to make the Intel 9461 WIFI card work:

• read about some recovery functions  or diagnostics used by the BIOS/EFI not working if the recovery partition is missing ... since I had installed Linux on the machine using the whole SSD disk, all hidden partitions had been wiped
• so I restored my clonezilla backup of all original partitions to get all of them back
• then installed the Intel WIFI card again
• did a hard reset by pressing the power buttons some 16 seconds
• powered the machine

RESULT: again, as before - the fan gives a short spin but the screen remains completely dark / blank and nothing happens ... I waited for like 20 seconds (need I wait longer???)

MY CONCLUSION(s):

• THIS IS THE LAST HP DEVICE I'VE BOUGHT, EVER .... yeah, you did it, HP ... congrats folks
• You sell a laptop with a **bleep**ty WIFI adapter ... probably to justify the higher prices for models with a good one ... wow, nice marketing/design principle
• And then you lock the BIOS (with whitelisting or something) so the user can't replace the card ... totally awesome
• But you still make even more money by selling "compatible" spare parts listed in the manual ... bingo, fooled them all
• Thanks for letting me learn. It only took some money and some fourty hours to get the message: I shall not buy HP anymore ....

The original issue: had very slow (like 50 kbps not mbps) wifi connections with the installed realtek RTL8723DE wifi adapter to speedport w502v router. Scanning a page with an HP officejet network printer would take several minutes. All other wifi devices connected to the router had much faster connections.

So I got the idea to replace the realtek RTL8723DE wifi adapter with a different one that's also listed in the maintenance guide.

Chose the following one because AC sounded like it would be fast enough for quite a while: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 9461 802.11 AC 1×1 WiFi + BT5 Combo Adapter (L25889-005)

Installed it.

Result/problem: Machine won't boot. The power LED turns on but the screen remains dark/black. No message whatsoever.

Reading up on the net about replacing wifi cards in HP notebooks, I stumble upon bios whitelisting/blacklisting. HP appears to have added some kind of blacklist/whitelist at least in some of their bios'es ... to only allow a very limited selection of adapters to be installed ... for whatever (what the hell?) reason.

So I figure the 'problem' is that I didn't buy/install the original spare part from HP themselves.

"Did you ACTUALLY buy the right part number from HP ? Which is the following part

So i figure 'to hell with all this' ... I'll buy the original part even though it costs twice as much as the one from alternate.de.

Bought L25889-005 ... waited almost 2 weeks for it to arrive.

Installed the original HP replacement part which is listed in the maintenance guide.

Same result/problem: Machine won't boot. The power LED turns on but the screen remains dark/black. No message whatsoever. Nothing.

So what do I do now? Do I go on wasting time with trying out the three remaining adapters listed in the MG?

Did I do something wrong? What can be done wrong with installing this M.2 adapter? I plug it in, fasten the screw and plug in the antenna. Anything wrong with that?

As soon as I put the RTL8723DE (that was installed originally) back in, the machine boots and everything is fine (except wifi speed).
