My HP Office Jet Pro 6978 All-in-One-Printer (PN# T0F29A) was about half thru printing a 20 page document, all in black ink, when it began streaking and then failed to print anything in black. The cartridges are all original HP and contained sufficient ink.
After several “cleaning” of the heads, the resulting printout contains only the four graduated color bands; no black print at all.
I can’t align the heads because the alignment page doesn’t contain many of the lines.
I’ve tried replacing the Black cartridge twice with different (half full) 902 cartridges, but no improvement. I have a new black cartridge but I hesitate to use it for fear that it will be wasted if it isn’t the remedy.
I tried to “copy” a printed document which was all in Black ink; no improvement.
I re-installed the printer software; no improvement.
I’ve run the newest Scan Doctor program from HP, but it finds no problem.
HELP!
